Long Island murders reported hours apart – NBC New York

Nassau Police were tight-lipped Friday evening following the deadly stabbings of two women at separate locations, including a Wendy’s eatery in Island Park. One man is in custody in connection with both deaths, but authorities released little information about the man, or any possible connection to the victims.
The Nassau Medical Examiner arrived Friday afternoon at the scene of the first killing in Valley Stream. An unidentified woman was found stabbed to death in her apartment at 90 West Mineola Ave. That attack is believed to have happened Thursday night, but investigators did not become aware of that stabbing until after they began working on the attack at the Wendy’s.

Hours later, a woman working at Wendy’s on Austin Blvd. died after being stabbed while taking out the restaurant’s garbage. Her name has not been released.
“It’s scary, it’s very scary,” said Angela Bleuler of Valley Stream, who lives near the scene of the apartment stabbing. “I’ve lived here my whole life and this is too close to home”
A woman speaking to NBC New York near that crime scene said she learned about the Wendy’s attack on social media, “and i thought that was bad enough. I had no idea it was tied to anything here.”

Nassau Police say the man who they believes is responsible for both deaths was apprehended at a 7-Eleven store on Atlantic Ave. in Lynbrook.
“I am shocked. It’s horrible. This is very quiet. I don’t expect anything like that here,” the woman near the Valley Stream location told News 4.

“The world is a crazy place, and you can’t really be too sure of the people that are directly in front of you sometimes, you know,” added neighbor Rumeal Richards. “So it’s a little scary.”
News 4 sought comment multiple times from the Nassau County Police Dept., but authorities declined to speak on-camera. Officials suggested they may hold a news conference on Saturday. Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman also declined comment Friday.
