Passenger train bumps work train at 96th Street – NBC New York
Authorities are investigating after one subway rear-ended another at a Manhattan station Thursday, causing some type of derailment, according to MTA sources.
They stress the investigation is in its preliminary stages.
A report of the incident at the 96th Street station near Broadway came in around 3 p.m. MTA sources say a commuter train rear-ended a work train leading to some kind of a derailment on the Upper West Side.
At least eight people were said to have suffered minor injuries, according to police. The passenger train was evacuated.
No other details were immediately available.

Transit was heavily affected in the area. The MTA said there is no 1/2/3 service in most of Manhattan Thursday evening and is advising commuters take A/B/C/D/R/W trains or local buses. See the latest MTA status here.
