At least one person was dead after a van driver struck two people walking in the heart of Manhattan, law enforcement sources said Wednesday.
The driver struck two people near Fifth Avenue and East 40th Street shortly before 3 p.m., according to the sources. One of the victims was pronounced dead, and a second was taken to a hospital in the area.
The van, reportedly green or teal in color, was seen leaving the area.
Traffic has been particularly bad midtown due to the United Nations General Assembly scheduled to take place through the week.
There were no further details on a suspect description or what was happening in the area at the time of the incident.
