NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani won’t be attending the Met Gala – NBC New York

There will be glitz and glam, but no mayor.
Zohran Mamdani will not be attending this year’s Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, known as fashion’s biggest night of the year. The Democratic socialist mayor confirmed to the publication HellGate that neither he nor his wife, Rama Duwaji, would be going to the posh party on the Upper East Side.
While he won’t be attending the fancy fundraiser that raises money for the institute, he did praise the Met, calling it an “incredible museum.”
It has become somewhat of a tradition (or at very least, a perk of the job) for the mayor to attend the annual bash in recent years. Former Mayor Eric Adams attended in 2022, wearing a tuxedo with the words “End Gun Violence” on the back.
Bill de Blasio attended in 2021 along with Chirlane McCray and their son, Dante. Michael Bloomberg has attended the Met Gala many times before, during and after his time as mayor.
