Historical Collections, Being a General Collection of Interesting Facts, Traditions, Biographical, Sketches, Anecdotes, &c., Relating to the History and Antiquities of Every Town in Massachusetts, with Geographical Descriptions, by John Warner Barber.
1844, Worcester, Warren Lazell.
In a handsome period full calf mottled leather binding, smooth spine richly gilt ruled into compartments with large ornate gilt devices in compartments. Marbled end papers and edges, folding engraved map as frontis with original hand color.
Profusion of over 200 wood engravings throughout, many being early full page birds-eye or prospect views of these locations. All display a charming almost folk-art visual quality due to their crude nature.
Spine slightly age crackled, boards lightly rubbed or scuffed along edges. Leather still supple, book sound and tight. Light scattered spotting, some age toning, text block mostly clean. Old paper library label to front pastedown.
Beautiful antiquarian book with wonderful age patina.
Book measures: 9 1/4″ H X 6″ W.
