Harlem crash by Apollo Theater kills bicyclist – NBC New York

Shocking new surveillance video shows an SUV speed on a busy Harlem thoroughfare and plow into two delivery workers on bikes, one of whom died as a result, police said.

The vehicle can be seen on the video zooming down West 125th Street just after 8 p.m. Thursday night, speeding past other cars and barreling through the bike lane. The driver then struck the two bicyclists in a collision that was so violent, one of the workers went flying in the air.

As the SUV goes by in an instant, a number of people on the sidewalk were understandably startled, including two in the video who jumped out of the way and fell to the ground.

The speeding car continued its rampage, striking an unoccupied NYPD vehicle and then a tractor-trailer before finally coming to a stop.

In all, one worker was killed and four other people were hurt; the other worker on a bike suffered critical injuries. The delivery worker killed was identified as 28-year-old Darly Zacarías, of the Bronx.

There was also extensive damage to vehicles in the area, right outside the famed Apollo Theater.

“It was like an explosion. It hit the gray car that was waiting over there. Then the pieces, they flew off, hit my car too. Like [the driver] hit the truck and just kept stepping on the gas,” said witness Jonathan Morillo.

The driver of the speeding SUV was taken into custody at the scene. On Friday, police said 49-year-old Kevin Crosby had been charged with manslaughter and driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Attorney information for Crosby was not immediately available.

An investigation into the cause of the crash and why the SUV was going so fast is ongoing.
