New York Democratic congressional candidate Jack Schlossberg stood alongside his famous mother, Caroline Kennedy, on the Upper East Side on Mother’s Day, and proposed that the IRS Child Tax Credit become a monthly benefit while calling upon the funds allocated to building President Trump’s ballroom to pay for it.
Schlossberg made the push alongside Kennedy inside of the St. Catherine’s Park as mothers spent the holiday playing with their children. Here, amidst the sound of laughter and the screech of metal swingsets, Schlossberg announced what he dubbed “Monthly Moms Bonus.”
“Every year, moms and dads await their $2,000 check,” Schlossberg said. “Let’s make it monthly. That’s the way that families budget month to month. It’s much easier to budget if you’re getting your payment broken up in 12 monthly payments. And we’re going to expand it. That’s why I’m calling it the mom’s monthly bonus. It’s a plan to turn the yearly childhood taxpayer credit into a monthly payment, and I want to increase this payment.”

Schlossberg said he has also devised a way to pay for the monthly sum. His plan would be financed by the $1 billion Republicans are seeking to bankroll White House State Ballroom. While President Trump has used the recent assassination attempt at the correspondents’ dinner as a reason why the ballroom is needed, Schlossberg says that mothers are a more worthy cause.
“Trump wants a billion for the ballroom. I want a billion dollars for moms and working families,” Schlossberg charged. “I say we ask President Trump directly about this one, because I think he’s going to decide with Jack Schlossberg, not his own party. I think President Trump agrees with me that moms deserve this payment, not the ballroom.”
Currently, the Child Tax Credit issues up to $2,200 per child for qualifying families. Schlossberg not only wants to make monthly payments for all U.S. tax filers, but also to increase the amount, through the second phase of his plan, to $300 per month for younger kids.

“I’m proud that Jack has a plan to help mothers and children right away, and I know that he will keep trying to do that every day if he’s elected to Congress, there is so much that we need to do,” Caroline Kennedy said.
Schlossberg is vying for the 12th Congressional District seat, previously held by Jerry Nadler.
