Hoboken water main break prompts boil advisory Tuesday – NBC New York

A city in New Jersey was hit with not one, but two separate water main breaks on Tuesday.
City officials in Hoboken say a pair of mains broke within several hours of one another, each forcing a boil water advisory for local residents.
The first break was reported around 11 a.m. in the area of Newark and Garden streets. Minor flooding on nearby roads was visible from Chopper 4.
Crews managed to isolate the break and begin repairs quickly. A number of cars, however, had to be towed while work was completed. Officials told people to pick up their vehicles at a lot on 1301 Jefferson, free of charge.
Amid ongoing repairs, residents around Garden and Newark streets saw low water pressure or none at all. Hoboken residents were placed under a boil water advisory until the its Department of Environmental Protection gives the OK.
Water distribution sites were scheduled to open at 3 p.m. at the following locations:
- Multi-Service Center, 124 Grand Street
- Monroe Gardens, 221 Jackson Street
- Fox Hill Gardens, 311 13th Street
A second water main break was discovered shortly before 3 p.m. in the area of Garden and Bloomfield streets. The city said that break was 8 inches.
